Professional Engineer
License Description
To work at the level of Professional Engineer, licensure must be obtained in one of the following disciplines of engineering: agricultural, chemical, civil, control systems, electrical, environmental, fire protection, geological, industrial, manufacturing, mechanical, metallurgical and materials, mining/mineral, nuclear, petroleum, naval architecture/marine, structural or any other discipline deemed appropriate by the Board. Applicants must: 1) Be at least 21 years old, of good character and good reputation. 2) Have a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited engineering program. 3) Pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (EI) exam*. 4) Have 4 years of approved active engineering work experience; 2 years of the required work experience must be under the direct supervision of an engineer licensed in the discipline of engineering in which the applicant is applying. 5) Pass the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) exam*. *National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) exams; both are 8-hour, written examinations. Engineer Intern: To be eligible for certification as an engineer intern, applicants must: 1) Be a graduate of or in the final year of an engineering curriculum of 4 years or more that has been approved by the Board and have passed the EI exam, OR 2) Have had 4 years or more experience in engineering work that is satisfactory to the Board and have passed the EI exam. PE exam note: Nevada offers an "early exam" option for those who have completed a BS in Engineering, have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam and wish to take the PE exam prior to completing the 4 years of experience that are required for licensure. Visit the Board's website for specific requirements. Fees may be subject to change. Fees are: PE exam/license application--$200; reciprocity application--$200; early exam application -$100; biennial license renewal (professional engineer)--$100 for the first classification plus one-half of the renewal fee ($50) for each additional classification up to a maximum of $200; application for fundamentals of engineering (EI) exam--$30.
