Certified Court Reporter
License Description
Applicants must pass the dictation test at 200 words per minute with 97.5 percent accuracy and must pass a written test with at least 70 percent. The written test covers punctuation, grammar, vocabulary, spelling, medical and legal terminology, as well as Nevada Revised Statutes, Nevada Administrative Code and Supreme Court rules applying to court reporting. Examinations are held in Las Vegas. Continuing education hours are required for license renewal. Subject to the approval of the Board, applicants must have one of the following to qualify to take the examination: 1) Proof of satisfactory completion of a court reporting program; or 2) A current license from another state; or 3) A valid Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) certificate or higher from the National Court Reporters Association; or 4) A certificate as a certified verbatim reporter from the National Verbatim Reporters Association; or 5) One year of continuous work experience as a shorthand reporter in a non-certifying state in the year immediately preceding the date of application. Fees may be subject to change. Fees are: certificate of application/renewal--$200; application for exam--$150; application for inactive--$100; reinstatement (after inactive status)--$75.
