Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor
License Description Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors must be licensed or certified in the state of Nevada. Applicants for licensure or certification must: 1) Be at least 21 years old. 2) Not have abused alcohol or controlled substances for 2 years prior to submitting an application. 3) Not have been on parole or probation for 2 years prior to submitting an application. 4) Observe "Ethical Standards and Requirements". 5) Submit 2 sets of fingerprint cards. In addition to the general requirements listed above, specific requirements for each category are listed below. Certified Counselor Intern (CADC-Intern): a bachelor's degree or 60 credits towards a bachelor's degree. Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (CADC): a bachelors degree in an approved social science field from an accredited college or university; 2 years of full time employment (4,000 hours) under clinical supervision in alcohol and drug abuse counseling; a written exam (scoring at least 70% to proceed to the oral exam), and an oral exam (scoring at least 70% to pass). Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (LADC): a Masters degree in an approved social science field in addition to those requirements listed above for a CADC. For information regarding exceptions to the certification/licensure requirements, recertification/continuing education requirements and/or substituting education in lieu of experience requirements, visit the Board's website. Fees may be subject to change. Fees are: CADC Intern application/license- $210; CADC application/license- $470 (includes $60 processing fee and $280 testing fees); LADC application/license- $490 (includes $60 processing fee and $300 testing fees); renewal (valid 2 years)-- $250; intern certification renewal --$75 annually.
