Environmental Health Specialist
License Description Environmental Health Specialists must register with the board. Applicants for registration must: 1a) Have at least a bachelor's degree in environmental health, environmental health sciences, or have a Master's degree in Public Health from an accredited institution; or 1b) Have at least a bachelor's degree which included 30 semester credits (45 quarter credits) of course work in core natural science (such as biology, chemistry, physics, geology or others as approved by the board), as well as sanitary or environmental engineering, and have at least 2 years of experience approved by the board in the field of public health; or 1c) Have training or experience obtained during U.S. or Nevada state military service that is equivalent to 2 years of experience in environmental health as determined by the Board. 2) Submit fingerprint cards for a background check. 3) Pass the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) examination. Environmental Health Specialist Trainees are required to register within 90 days of becoming employed. They must work under the supervision of a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) and pass the exam within 3 years of being hired. Fees may be subject to change. Fees are: new regular and new trainee fees - $395 (includes processing - $50, NEHA REHS exam - $125, Pearson Vue fee--$100; background check - $55, and annual registration --$65); registration by reciprocity--$170 (includes processing - $50, background check - $55, and annual registration - $65).
