License Description Those who wish to practice law in Nevada must pass the State Bar examination after graduating from a law school approved by the American Bar Association. Applicants for admission to the bar must: 1) Have received a degree of bachelor of law, or an equivalent law degree, from a law school approved by the committee on legal education and admissions of the American Bar Association. 2) Have good moral character and be willing and able to abide by the high ethical standards required of attorneys and counselors at law. 3) Have not been refused admission to or disbarred from the practice of law in any U.S. state, court or governmental agency due to unfitness of character. 4) Not be subject to any mental or emotional disorder which would render the applicant unfit to practice law. 5) Not be an abuser of alcohol or prescription drugs, or a user of illegal drugs. 6) Demonstrate financial responsibility. 7) Be in full compliance with any court order, including without limitation, spousal or child support orders. 8) Pass the written bar examination given in February and July. 9) Pass the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE) with a scale score of at least 85 no earlier than three years prior to, or no later than three years after, the year in which the applicant sits for and passes the bar examination. Note: The MPRE is administered every March, August and November by the National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBEX). Applications to take the MPRE must be obtained from American College Testing at (319) 337-1287. For more information on MPRE visit the NCBEX web site at www.ncbex.org. There is no reciprocity with other states. Attorneys are not admitted on motion or by reciprocity and there is no reciprocity as to Multistate Bar Examinations previously taken in other jurisdictions. Those wanting admission to the Nevada State Bar must sit for the full 2 1/2 day examination. The same examination is administered to all applicants, including attorneys, irrespective of the number of years of practice. The examination is administered the last Tuesday - Thursday of February and July in Las Vegas and the last Tuesday - Thursday of July in Reno. Fees may be subject to change. Fees are: application - $50; examination (students)--$700-$1,250; examination (attorneys)--$1,000-$1,550; initial license & renewal (first 4 years)--$250/year; license renewal (5 years and up)--$450/year.
