Teachers instruct pupils in public or private schools at the elementary, middle, intermediate, junior high, or secondary level. At the elementary level, teach basic academic, social, and other formative skills. At other levels, instruct students in one or more subjects, such as English, mathematics, or social studies. Includes teachers of career and technical education. Some teachers instruct adults or out-of-school youth in basic education, high school equivalency, or English as a second language.

Certification Requirements:
- Submit application for certification and non-refundable application fee
- Alternative methods of qualification:
- Alternative 1: Completion of an approved program of professional preparation in education
- Alternative 2: Completion of a comparable program outside of New Hampshire
- Alternative 3: Qualification based on Demonstrated Competencies and Equivalent Experiences, requiring both written examination and oral review
- Alternative 4: Individualized Professional Development Plan, restricted to critical shortage areas, career and technical specialty areas, and business administrators (New Hampshire residency is required)
- Alternative 5: A site-based Individual Certification Plan, on-the-job training allowing an individual to attain certification in elementary and secondary teaching areas if academic requirements of an entry-level baccalaureate with 30 credits in the content area and an overall GPA of 2.5 or better are met, and if a local school district is willing to assume responsibility for training and supervising the teacher candidate (New Hampshire residency is required)
Beginning Educator Certificate
- A beginning educator certificate is issued to those with less than three years of teaching experience, including teaching experience at the elementary and secondary levels of education
- Must meet one of the alternative qualifications for a credential and successfully complete the application process
- Beginning educator certificates are issued for a period of three years
- Upon completion of three years of full-time teaching experience while maintaining a valid credential, a beginning educator is qualifed for an experienced educator certificate
Experience Educator Certificate
- At least three years of full-time experience as an educator at the elementary and secondary levels of education
- An experienced educator credential is issued for a period of three years
Intern License
- Submit application
- Currently be employed full-time in the field of education in a New Hampshire public school
- Intern licenses are granted for the duration of the individualized development plan or the site-based certification plan
- Educators who have held a valid intern license for up to three consecutive school years shall receive a beginning educator credential after the Bureau receives the required report of completion under the individualized development plan or superintendent's statement regarding completion of the site-based certification plan
Master Teacher Certificate
- Hold an experienced educator certificate from the State of New Hampshire
- Academic preparation including a Master's degree and graduate coursework in curriculum development, supervision, and evaluation
- Have demonstrated quality teaching by meeting professional criteria developed by the Professional Standards Board and approved by the State Board of Education, including:
- Quantitative evaluations of teaching quality from students, parents, peers, and administrators;
- At least three classroom observations of the candidate by an ind
