Professional Geologists study composition, structure, and history of the earth's crust; examine rocks, minerals, and fossil remains to identify and determine the sequence of processes affecting the development of the earth; apply knowledge of chemistry, physics, biology, and mathematics to explain these phenomena and to help locate mineral and petroleum deposits and underground water resources; prepare geologic reports and maps, and interpret research data to recommend further action for study.

Licensure Requirements:
- Must be of good professional character
- A Bachelor's degree in geology or a related field which included 30 credit hours or 45 quarter hours in geology from an accredited four-year college
- All candidates must pass the Fundamentals of Geology and the Practice of Geology written examinations
- Five years experience in the practice of geology, of which at least three years must have been under the supervision of a professional geologist
Examination: Written examination required, offered twice each year (March and September)
Continuing Education: A minimum of 24 professional development hours per biennium

- Biennial renewal: $150
- Certificate of licensure: $50
- Verification of licensure: $25
Reciprocity: Permitted, providing requirements of the licensing jurisdiction are substantially equivalent to those of this state, and verification of licensure and examination are submitted to the Board
