Land Surveyor
License Description

Land Surveyors establish official land boundaries and help determine the value of plots of land. Research deeds, write legal descriptions of land, measure plots of land, and collect information for maps and charts. May head up a survey party, where they are responsible for its activities and the accuracy of its work. Plan fieldwork, select survey reference points, determine the exact location of land features, and prepare survey reports. Select survey staffs, prepare budgets, and buy survey equipment.

Legislation: NH RSA 310-A:53; Administrative Rules Chapter Lan 100-500

Licensure Requirements:

  • Complete at least one college-level course in land surveying; or engage in land surveying work as a land surveyor-in-training under the supervision of a licensed land surveyor
  • At least six years accumulated experience/education in land surveying work

Examination: Written examination required

Continuing Education: Eight continuing education units (CEUs) are required biennially

Fees:

  • Application: $120
  • Examination – New Hampshire Legal Aspects (NHL): $125
  • Examination – Professional Land Surveyor (PLS): $310
  • Biennial Renewal: $150
  • Surveyor-in-training examination: $75
