Medication Nursing Assistant (MNA)
License Description

A Medication Nursing Assistant (MNA) is licensed nursing assistant (LNA) who has completed a Board-approved medication administration program conducted by a Board-approved Registered Nurse. The MNA functions as a care partner of the RN/LPN in the task of administration of medication to stable clients, those whose health status is under control and raises no expectation that the client's symptoms, vital signs, or reactions to medications will suddenly change.

Certification Requirements:

  • Ability to read and write the English language
  • Hold a current unencumbered LNA license issued by the Board
  • Have successfully met the eligibility requirements and successfully completed a Board-approved medication administration education program as described in Nur 800
  • Pass the required examination described in Nur 300 and Nur 800
  • Submit application and appropriate fees to the Board

Examination: Written examination required

Continuing Education: LNA license renewal requires 24 hours every two years on topics that enhance knowledge and skills; MNA renewals require that eight of those 24 hours be in a medication administration topic

Fees:

  • Certification: $10
  • Biennial renewal: $10
  • Late renewal (allowed up to 30 days only): $25

Reciprocity: Not permitted
