Individual sewage disposal system installers and designers design, install, and repair septic systems, which are required for any structure to which a water supply is connected and that is not connected to a municipal sewage collection system. Septic systems must be designed and installed by individuals holding a valid permit, issued by the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services, Subsurface Systems Bureau. Additionally, repair or replacement of an existing septic system must be conducted by a permit holder as well. The only exception to this requirement is that a homeowner may design and/or install a septic system for his/her primary domicile.
