License Description JOB DESCRIPTION: A certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) who specializes in anesthesia care to prevent pain during surgical operations, deliveries, or other medical and dental procedures. The APRN-CRNA must administer prescribed anesthesia under the supervision of a physician, dentist, or podiatrist and monitor patient's pre-anesthetic, anesthetic, and post-anesthetic condition. An APRN-CRNA also informs the physician of the patient's condition. APRN-CRNA's are normally employed in hospitals, health care centers, offices of dentistry, and surgery centers. APRN-CRNA's may also apply for their own authority to order, select, obtain and administer drugs, devices and medical gases in the pre-anesthetic, anesthetic and post-anesthetic phases of care, under the supervision of a doctor.
