License Description VETERINARY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN

A veterinary technician performs procedures that are assigned or delegated to the technician by the supervising veterinarian and do not involve diagnosing, prescribing, or performing surgical procedures. The technician leads or transports animals from its quarters to the treatment room, lifts them to the table, applies restraints or holds them for treatment, sterilizes instruments and equipment using germicides and autoclave, administers anesthetics and medications, and provides prescribed nursing care under the responsible supervision of a licenses veterinarian. Other duties: prepares specified ingredients for foods; feeds, bathes, and brushes animals; cleans hospital rooms and animal quarters; and receives clients or does other office tasks.

REQUIREMENTS:
Graduate from a veterinary technology program approved by the American Veterinary Medicine Association; Successfully complete the examination requirements; Provide proof of good moral character.

EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS:
Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE).

CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Obtain twelve (12) hours of continuing education each calendar year. Licensee must retain independent documentation of attendance and completion of all continuing education courses for a period of four (4) years from the end of the calendar year in which the course is completed.
