License Description
AUDIOLOGISTS
Audiology is the application of non-medical principles, methods and procedures for the assessment of auditory vestibular systems, including the interpretation of behavioral and physiologic measures, and the design and implementation of programs of hearing conservation and preservation and programs of habilitation and rehabilitation for auditory and vestibular disorders. This includes the assessment, selection, fitting and sale of amplification systems or other assistive devices and technologies; and the testing, appraisal, prediction, consultation, counseling, and instruction related to hearing and disorders of hearing. An audiologist will check hearing for the purpose of modifying communicative disorders involving speech, language, auditory functions, or other aberrant behavior related to hearing loss.
REQUIREMENTS:
Be at least 18 years of age of good moral character and satisfy education and examination requirements.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Four year program plus clinical experience, and a Doctoral Degree in the area of audiology.
EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS:
ASHA certified or has taken the Praxis examination in audiology with a minimum score of 170 administered by Education Testing Service, Princeton, New Jersey 08541.
CONTINUING EDUCATION:
A minimum of ten hours per year approved by the board.
RENEWAL REQUIREMENTS:
Every two years contingent on completion of continuing education requirement.
