CLINICAL PERFUSIONIST
License Description CLINICAL PERFUSIONIST

A clinical perfusionist operates special equipment that temporarily takes over a patient's respiratory and/or circulatory functions. This ensures that oxygen reaches the patient's body through the blood, even when the patient's lungs and heart are temporarily not functioning. They are part of the surgical team for operations such as open heart surgery.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation from an ACPE/CAHEA approved perfusion education program.

EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS:
Examinations are given by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion or its successor organization.

RENEWAL REQUIREMENTS:
Every two (2) years before the last day of the month in which a license holder's birthday falls.

CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Fifteen (15) hours of continuing education in courses approved by the Committee and Board every calendar year.
