License Description DENTAL ASSISTANTS

A dental assistant assists in the care of dental patients under the direct supervision of the dentist. A dental assistant may not remove hard or soft deposits by scaling or curettage from surfaces of teeth, and may not perform any dental function that requires professional judgment or skill. A dental assistant can perform coronal polishing, monitoring nitrous oxide sedation, expose radiographs, placing sealants, restorative or prosthetic function only if certified to do so by the Board.

REQUIREMENTS:
Be eighteen (18) years of age. Be of good moral character and reputation. Be a U.S. or Canadian citizen or entitled to live in the United States. Must have graduated high school or have gotten a GED.

EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS:
Successful completion of examinations administered by the course providers approved by the Board is required for each certification.

CONTINUING EDUCATION:
Must maintain current training in C.P.R.

RENEWAL REQUIREMENTS:
Every two years. License expires in birth month according to even or odd birth year.
