TITLE INSURANCE AGENT
License Description
TITLE INSURANCE AGENT
A title insurance agent has an agency contract or agreement with an insurance company to solicit or negotiate a policy of title insurance on the company's behalf.
REQUIREMENTS:
At least eighteen years of age; living or practicing in Tennessee; is competent, trustworthy and of good business reputation; and meets education and examination requirements as applicable.
EXPERIENCE:
Unless exempt from examination, must certify that the applicant has completed a prelicensing course of study of 5 hours approved by the commissioner.
EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS:
Pass an examination covering Tennessee laws and rules pertaining to insurance, general insurance terms, concepts, policy provisions, and contract law; as well as title insurance terms, concepts, and matters regarding the search and examination of title to real property. (Renewal applicants, applicants licensed in other states that offer the same privilege, and life applicants who earned the designation of chartered property and casualty underwriter are exempt from examination requirements.)
CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
At least 12 hours of study annually in approved courses, programs of instruction, or seminars during the twelve-month period immediately prior to renewal. A maximum of 12 additional hours of continuing education not needed to fulfill the requirement for a given year can be carried forward to the next year. (Exempt are agents at least sixty-five years old or those licensed as agent for not less than 15 years)
RENEWAL:
Annual renewal contingent on satisfying continuing education requirements.
