Wastewater Plant Operator
License Description Individuals must meet required minimum education (including continuing education) and experience requirements and pass the required computer-based examination. There aer five levels of wastewater certification (operator-in-training (OIT), and groups I-IV). Each level requires a different level of education. All require a high school diploma or GED. Required fees are $140 for the application, examination and the examination administration fee. OIT requires 3 months of domestic wastewater treatment plant operating experience, 3 college credits or continuing education uinits relevant to wastewater. Group I required 1 years of domestic wastewater treatment plant operating experience. Group II requires 3 years of domestic wastewater treatment plant operating experience (up to half can be substituted with relevant experience or education). Group III rquired 90 credits relevant to wastewater and 4 years of domestic wastewater treatment plant operating experience with at least 2 years at a class II or higher plant. Group IV requires 180 credits relevant to wastewater and 4 years of domestic wastewater treatment plant operating experience at a clas III or higher plant.
