INDEPENDENT CLINICAL SUPERVISOR
License Description
The Independent Clinical Supervisor* is a seasoned supervisor who has demonstrated substantial experience sufficient to earn the title of Independent Clinical Supervisor. The certification is available to those who have demonstrated 10,000 hours of substance abuse counseling practice in not less than 5 years as a certified clinical substance abuse counselor or master's level Chapter 457 credential holder (APSW; ICSW; LCSW; LMFT; LPC). Additional requirements include demonstration of at least 2 years of experience in the supervision of substance abuse counselors. The Independent Clinical Supervisor exercises responsibility over substance abuse counselors concerning all activities, including but not limited to, substance abuse counselor development, skill assessment and performance evaluation, staff management and administration, and professional responsibility. The supervisor shall not permit a supervisee to engage in any practice that the supervisee is not competent to perform.
