SUBSTANCE ABUSE COUNSELOR
License Description A Certified Substance Abuse Counselor* is a professional who has specialized education in substance abuse and training related to the performance of the eight practice dimensions, counseling theories and techniques to treat substance abuse and substance use disorders. Treatment functions of a Substance Abuse Counselor include patient screening, assessment, individualized treatment planning, intervention, individual or group and family substance abuse counseling, referral, discharge planning, after care or continuing care, record keeping, consultation with other professionals regarding the patient's treatment services, recovery and case management, and may include crisis intervention, client education, employment and problem resolution in life skills functioning (ref. s. HFS 75.02(90), Wis. Admin. Code).
