License Description Description of Occupation: A Physician diagnoses and treats diseases and disorders of the human body; examines patients, utilizing all types of medical equipment, instruments, and tests following standard medical procedures; performs surgery; prescribes and administers medications; and engages in research to aid in control and cure of disease. Requirements for Licensing: Every person desiring to practice medicine shall, before beginning to practice, procure from the Board a license or permit authorizing such practice. A license or permit may be issued to any person who: is lawfully entitled to remain and work in the CNMI; and has completed one year of postgraduate training approved by the Board. Minimum educational requirement: graduation with degree of Doctor of Medicine from a US or Canadian medical school listed as approved by the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals, American Medical Association in the list published for the year of the applicant's graduation; or graduation with degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a medical school other than one covered by the paragraph above (including foreign schools), provided that the medical education and the medical knowledge acquired therefrom are substantially comparable to that of approved US medical schools as provided in the paragraph above, as determined by the Board.
