License Description Description of Occupation: A Physician Assistant is a skilled health practitioner qualified through academic and clinical training to serve patients. Under the supervision and responsibility of a licensed physician, the physician assistant performs medical tasks normally carried out by a physician, such as taking medical histories, performing physical examinations, ordering laboratory tests, making tentative diagnoses, and prescribing appropriate treatments. The physician assistant always works under the direction of a licensed "supervising physician".Requirements for Licensing: An applicant for certification as a physician's assistant must: be graduated from high school, or possess an equivalent educational background; be able to communicate adequately in the English language; be of good moral character and reputation; and have attended and completed a course in training as a physician's assistant approved by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association, or other course approved by the Board.Examinations: Endorsement.
