Purpose To encourage students or graduates with concentrations in communications or journalism that are interested in promoting and protecting human rights, with a particular emphasis on Latin America.
Focus Communications; Human rights.
Qualifications Applicants must be in the Washington office, international students studying in the U.S. are eligible, but they must hold a valid F-1 or J-1 visa and appropriate work authorization; if you are an international student not already studying in the U.S. on a F-1 or J-1 visa, then you have to go through a university exchange program or an outside organization (e.g. internship placement agency) that will sponsor your visa; must have the appropriate visa to apply for this internship; applicants do not have a valid work authorization or visa, it is possible to carry out the internship virtually; must have excellent writing skills in both English and Spanish (particularly for the Washington D.C. office); Knowledge of Portuguese is valuable if applying to the Brazil office; translation experience is a plus; experience with web editing and social media; ability to work in teams and with an editor; strong research skills; experience working in NGOs is a plus; located in Washington, D.C. (USA) (onsite and online), San José (Costa Rica) (onsite and online), Río de Janeiro (Brazil), and Buenos Aires (Argentina); students or graduates with a career orientation towards human rights work are also considered.
Criteria Selection will be based on the applications of the aspiring interns.
