Purpose To support students whose parents have not participated in post-secondary education studies.
Focus General studies/Field of study not specified.
Qualifications Applicants must be residents of Ontario or permanent residents who are members of the Canadian Black community (i.e. Black persons of discernible African ancestry and self-identity); maximum 30 years of age and enrolled in a full-time student in the academic year at an accredited post-secondary institution (as determined by the NSF); and the first in their family to attend university.
Criteria Selection will be based on academic achievement, financial need, recognized contribution to the Black community and some donor prescribed criteria.
Duration Annual.
To Apply Applicants must complete the online application form and attach the following: Letter of Recommendation from teacher, guidance counsellor, principal or vice-principal who knows applicant well and can write about academic accomplishments and other outstanding attributes written on official letterhead; letter of Recommendation from a member of applicant community, high-school transcript (attachments in PDF format); hardcopy original of high school transcript must be sent to NSF Office within 14 days of application online deadline.
