What are the videos?
The Video Library provides a brief visual introduction to careers, career clusters, skills and abilities used in different occupations, and related topics.
Career videos: There are approximately 520 career videos that describe typical work tasks and settings, education requirements, and helpful qualities for almost 900 different occupations. Some closely related occupations are grouped together so that a single video may profile more than one occupation. Each career video is approximately 90 seconds in length. Spanish language translations are available.
Career cluster videos: Career clusters refer to groups of occupations with related skills, while industries refer to groups of businesses or organizations that share similar activities or products. These videos show the relationship of groups of occupations to the types of organizations that employ them. There are two videos for each career cluster: the first is an overview of the cluster and associated industries' functions, size, and trends, while the second video provides a description of occupations available at different levels of education and training in that cluster.
Skill and ability videos: Skills and abilities are faculties that you have, or talents that you develop through experience and training. Employers look for certain skills and abilities in the people they hire. The skill and ability videos illustrate some of the important skills and abilities needed in many different types of jobs.
Tutorial videos: This section includes videos on using CareerOneStop tools, and on various job search topics.
Who created the videos?
The career videos and career cluster videos were developed by CareerOneStop. Career video content is based on data from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics website Occupational Outlook Handbook and O*NET OnLine, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration (USDOLETA).
Career cluster videos reference data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The video creation platform, WOCHIT, was used to produce the career videos and career cluster videos.
The skill and ability videos were originally developed and distributed by the Center for Occupational Employment Information (COEI) under a grant from America's Labor Market Information System (ALMIS), a program of the USDOLETA. In 2022, CareerOneStop updated the videos' moving and still images using current occupation environments and equipment.
